Delivery Manager - GDS, AGILE

Contract. Coventry. Government. Outside of IR35. £500-£550. 3 months +

Delivery Manager required urgently in Coventry. You will manage agile delivery teams delivering specific products, services or transformations via multi-disciplinary, skilled digital teams. You must be adept at delivering complex digital projects, removing work impediments and helping agile teams to inspect and adapt their processes and practices to ensure delivery of quality code that is fit for purpose. This contract is likely to be extended and has the potential to become more long term.

Role activities

  • Encourage a culture of innovation within delivery teams focused on adding value and giving people space to think creatively
  • Collaboratively develop clear, pragmatic and manageable plans for service delivery
  • Clarify strategies and plans, giving clear sense of direction and purpose for self and team
  • Continue to promote and embed a range of best practice agile services within the programme
  • Provide agile mentoring and coaching to new staff in the team as required
  • Lead and coordinate the scrum team(s) engaged in the delivery of major development and change to the Service ensuring the data of its users are protected at all times.
  • Ensure that best practice agile techniques are applied and used across the Service and be a champion for GDS agile approaches.
  • Lead in the engagement of suitable 3rd Party resources where additional capacity is required, and manage its utilisation and productivity to ensure it delivers best value.
  • Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process - prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of the team
  • Matrix-manage a multidisciplinary team


Skills and Attributes

  • Proven experience balancing multiple priorities within a team and dealing with ambiguity in requirements
  • Collaboratively develop clear, pragmatic and manageable plans for service delivery using programme and project management disciplines
  • Clarify strategies and plans, giving clear sense of direction and purpose for self and team
  • Able to coach the delivery team, product owners and business stakeholders on agile practices and experience
  • Strong understanding of the Government Digital Service's Design Principles and Digital Service Standard
  • Push decision making to the right level within the organisation, not allow unnecessary bureaucracy and structure to suppress innovation and delivery
  • Be able to build and lead a self-organising team
  • Show a commitment to ensuring the team understands the user requirements
