Desktop Migration Engineer - Edinburgh - 18 months

Migration / Windows 10 / Active Directory / Server/ SCCM / Microsoft / Office / ITIL / Cloud

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Desktop Migration Engineer for an 18 months contract based in Edinburgh with our public-sector client.

You will be required to provide technical guidance to support the delivery of the project with a focus on the migration of desktop clients from the current Windows 7 based desktop client to new Windows 10 based desktop client

Responsibilities will include -

  • Oversee the implementation of the new Windows 10 based desktop client at locations throughout Scotland
  • Ensure the smooth uninterrupted transition of desktop services and devices
  • Take an active part in the installation, configuration and migration of desktop services & devices.
  • Gather requirements and coordinate non-functional and functional testing
  • Produce clear technical documentation
  • Plan and implement the migration of users from current standard desktop configuration to the new standard desktop configuration.

Essential skills -

  • Microsoft Active Directory and Server knowledge
  • Managing, installing and configuring Microsoft Windows 7/10, Microsoft Systems Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
  • Supporting and maintaining desktop services
  • Detailed knowledge of enterprise desktop productivity suite configuration and deployment knowledge - Microsoft Office 2013/2016
  • Detailed knowledge of desktop security products
  • Understanding of project management and delivery

Desirable skills -

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Knowledge of ITIL and industry best practices
  • An understanding of public, private and hybrid cloud technologies

Candidate will be expected to hold a Basic Disclosure Scotland issued in the last 12 months or be happy to undergo this clearance.
