Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Lead Security Architect with our public-sector client for a 6 months contract based in Edinburgh.

Our client is looking for a candidate with a unique mix of skills including deep technical domain knowledge, leadership ability, along with the rigor to stand up the necessary process, procedures, and reporting mechanism for the practice to be a success

Main duties:

  • Lead the security practice and instil the future vision
  • Lead the security practice to facilitate:
    • Risk review and remediation
    • Engineering new security solutions / capabilities
    • Network security defence assessment & management
    • Assurance testing and reporting
    • Wider IT consultation helping embedded good security practice
    • Security incident and forensics response
  • Understand present capability gap and formulate roadmap for improvement
  • Promote good security practice through wider IT / Developer engagement
  • Author relevant architecture / design documents to support solution delivery
  • Strong sense of ownership and duty of care to the security function
  • Taking an active part in the team's and department's Agile culture by learning and putting into practice the VFQ disciplines
  • Managing workloads using Kanban techniques and/or other team defined methodologies
  • Troubleshoot and help resolve any security related issues; provide guidance to wider technical teams on issues that fall within own skill areas

Essential Skills:

  • Deep technical knowledge / experience across multi system domains
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile working, including such disciplines as Kanban, feedback, retrospectives, VFQ.
  • Risk aware, focused on risk reduction and mitigation
  • Strong delivery based mind set, action orientated, goal driven
  • Ability to run a small focused team across multiple disciplines, namely
    • Security engineering
    • Security vulnerability management
    • Security incident management & forensics
    • Security assurance
    • SME knowledge in network security threat analyse and defence
  • Robust TCP/IP knowledge and common protocol knowledge
  • Knowledge of Cisco Routing & Switching technologies
  • Experience across multi security domains, theory & practical concerns
  • Deep security design and architecture knowledge
  • Experience with penetration testing, interpretation and remediation
  • Strong Firewall, IDS, IPS knowledge ideally Checkpoint, ASA
  • Strong knowledge of operating system security aspects Linux, Windows
  • Good experience with vulnerability, patch analysis and remediation
  • Past experience authoring security standards
  • Experience working within VMWare virtualisation environments
  • Strong knowledge of security lifecycle management
  • Expert knowledge of application security, common threat vectors
  • Knowledge of web security threats and filtering technology
  • Knowledge of common authentication & authorisation systems
  • Knowledge of logging and anomaly modelling
  • Knowledge of common security assurance mechanisms
  • Knowledge of cryptographic solutions and weaknesses
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to self-manage workload
  • Quality focused, due care and attention taken to ensure solutions and security function meet their quality criteria and the team standards set
  • Scripting knowledge using BASH, Python, Powershell etc
  • Creativity - taking new approaches to tackle problems; embracing innovation and sharing knowledge with, a range of sources and stakeholders
  • Minimum 5 Years' experience within a security role, with 3 years min as an architect

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of working in a DevOps environment
  • Experience with SIEM based solutions
  • Experience building & leading teams of 5+ people
  • Experience of setting up a new security practice
  • Knowledge of Network SDN, specifically NSX
  • Past experience with programming on C, C++, or ASM
  • Knowledge of secure coding and code audit strategies
  • Knowledge of container security
  • Knowledge of SecDevOps culture and process
