Job Description

Diary Manager to the Director General

The Director General for Negotiation Coordination, Delivery and Legislation is responsible for preparing our withdrawal from the EU. This includes coordinating our exit negotiations with the EU, elements of our separation including the Withdrawal Agreement and the Implementation Period in addition to ensuring that Government's delivery plans for exit are robust and that the appropriate domestic legislation is planned for and delivered. As part of this, the group assists Ministers in their parliamentary commitments and in constructive engagement with the devolved administrations.

This is a fantastic job opportunity with significant responsibility and excellent development opportunities at the grade. It provides exposure to a wide range of high-profile issues, offers an excellent overview of how government works, and gives regular exposure to senior figures within DExEU and the Cabinet Office.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised team player who can demonstrate high levels of commitment, judgement, initiative and flexibility to provide first-class administrative and diary support.

You will work as part of a small Private Office team, with a Private Secretary (Band A/Grade 7), on the Director General's priorities and objectives. You will be someone who has excellent organisational skills, time management and good judgement. The ability to work quickly and under pressure while remaining calm will be critical. You should be able to manage competing priorities with a focus on the wider context.

Communication skills are also key to this role. The role will involve contact with Ministerial offices, senior officials in the department and across Government. You will report to the Private Secretary.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Management of the Director General's diary
  • Ensuring that regular meetings, key stakeholder meetings and cross-Whitehall meetings are scheduled, meeting rooms and catering are booked and all external visitors are met and escorted
  • Compiling daily briefing packs and where necessary commissioning briefings
  • Supporting the planning of external engagements, including overseas travel
  • Management of stakeholders both internally (at all grades) and externally
  • Other ad-hoc activities as dictated by office need
