Job Description

System Assistant - 3 months contract - East Lothian

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to assistant in maintenance, development and improvement of an electronic system and maximize efficiency of service delivery in accordance with policies and plans to achieve best value.

Duties will include but are not limited to -

  • Maintain and develop Customer Services management information system
  • Provide day-to-day front line systems "helpdesk" support and training to service users
  • Assist in the delivery of systems training and development for all staff.
  • Develop and compile training notes.
  • Develop and maintain an incident logging process
  • Assist in the management of interfaces with third party systems and liaise with other services
  • Assist with business improvement including the process mapping
  • Assist in the analysis, reporting and presentation of the Customer Service's statistical information
  • Assist in updating and management of content on intranet
  • Provide emergency systems support to Customer Services as part of a daily out-of-hours rota.
  • Assist with system servicing, upgrades and critical malfunctions out with normal working hours, when required.

Essential skills -

  • Experience in coaching/mentoring
  • Experience of working in a customer service or IT environment within a local authority or other customer focused organisation
  • Experience of managing performance and meeting targets.
  • Working knowledge of programming and web, eg. Visual basic, xml, html, etc.
  • Sound understanding of customer services and best practice.
  • Understanding of the diverse needs of customers.
  • Skilled user of Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, Outlook etc

Desirable skills -

  • Experience in a range of software applications including databases, spreadsheets, GIS and analytical packages.
  • Experience of using SQL and reporting tools, eg. Business Objects.
  • Experience of training.
